The Mac Travis Adventure Series books are full of boats and boating. For Wood’s Bones, I used one of my old boats, “Reef Runner”, The Parker 21 was named by a reader and has been featured in several books.
The lobster boat above is typical of the style and size of the commercial boats in the Keys.
Mike Hayes is an old-school captain, so I needed an old-school boat. At one time these cabin cruisers were very common in the Keys.
Even after his death, Mel Fisher remains a legend in the Keys. Two of the company’s salvage vessels are docked side-by-side at the marina adjacent to the Hogfish Grill on Stock Island. Both were involved in finding and salvaging the Attocha and Margarita wrecks. The black and white apparatus on the transoms are the mailboxes, used to clear the silt from the ocean floor.
I'm going to put the boat from Mel's salvage of the Attocha/Margarita with my pendant.
