I’m working in the latest Kurt Hunter Mystery, Backwater Connection. I had a good grasp of the story this time, but needed an inciting incident to open the book. Kurt has been fighting the sandbar parties in Biscayne National Park since last summer with Backwater Haven and Backwater Predator. When I sat down to write the first chapter the day after Memorial Day I saw the chaos as a storm rolled through the Islamorada sandbar. There are a whole bunch of stories that can come out of this one.
Enjoy:
It’s a thing everywhere. There are huge ones on Lake Michigan that I have seen. I think a lot of this started with COVID and the increase in boat sales. It is crazy to me too.
Steven,
Until reading your stories, I knew nothing about “sand bar parties”. Must be purely a Keys thing. Do you have any idea who started the whole fad. Seems like a lot of effort to just go drinking, must be more than a few “gunwale benders”?
